New project in Haiti to increase community safety

Ann Viv Ansamn (AVA) is a 26-month program to increase community security and reduce violence in four communities of Haiti (Arcahaie, Canaan, Miragoane, Carrefour-Feuilles). The project is led by Mercy Corps in collaboration with Conrad Grebel University College, Community Justice Initiatives, the Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR), and local partners in Haiti. The project is funded by Global Affairs Canada.

CCBR is supporting the youth-led research component of the AVA project. The purpose of this component is to engage community members to collaboratively identify and understand the neighbourhood-specific drivers of conflict and violence, and then together to develop community action plans that strategically help to address root causes. Youth from the four diverse communities in Haiti are to be hired, trained and supported to complete qualitative research (focus groups and individual interviews). Cycle 1 of the research was completed between June-December 2017. This first cycle was a pilot cycle that set the infrastructure and experience in place for a larger cycle 2 (January-June 2018).
