CCBR researchers, Lisa McMurtry, Dayan De Souza, and Hani Sadati, recently shared two projects at the C2U Expo in Edmonton, hosted by Community-Based Research Canada and MacEwan University.
Lisa and Dayan presented a project on creating a national strategy with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) to support mental health in rural and remote areas. Through a literature review and input from nearly 200 participants across Canada, six key priority areas were identified: housing, substance use services, service coordination, service continuum, logistics, and supporting healthcare workers. The presentation shared what communities called for and reflected on how to do national research that respects local differences.
Hani presented CCBR’s work done in partnership with Trillium Health Partners, focused on co-creating a podcast and infographic series based on a CIHR-funded study. The study explores how participatory visual methods—like photovoice and digital storytelling—can be adapted to online and hybrid settings. These creative tools help share research in accessible ways and support health equity. Conference guests could listen to the podcast at on-site listening booths.
