A collaborative project led by the University of Waterloo to co-create futures thinking tools in collaboration with institutions across Southern Africa in countries impacted by rapidly intensifying cyclones (Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, and Zimbabwe). To realize the goal of integrating regenerative futures thinking within planning cyclone adaptation, this project has the following objectives:
- O1: Develop a multi-sector partnership focused on sustainable urban development under the strain of climate hazards in Southern Africa.
- O2: Identify the role of futures thinking as a strategic means of incorporating long-term sustainable development targets in short-term cyclone adaptation approaches.
- O3: Evaluate the application of Artificial Intelligence in strategizing cyclone response and sustainable development in Southern African cities.
- O4: Mobilize policy tools for strategizing cyclone response and recovery via Generative Artificial Intelligence applications premised on futures thinking.
