In the recent weeks, two new students have joined the CCBR team. Read their bios below:
Lihua Yang – Master of Social Work Intern, Wilfrid Laurier University
What was it about CCBR that made you want to be involved here?
I was deeply impressed by one of the articles--Breathing Life into Theory, which highlights the importance of doing research with people, rather than on people. Nothing about me, without me. There are a variety of fantastic projects hosted by CCBR, which I believe could give me a broader vision of the world.
What are you most looking forward to in your role at CCBR?
It would be an exciting opportunity for me to explore community-based research including project initiatives and developing, proposal writing, program evaluation.
I am looking forward to discovering how the Canadian civil society is working and functioning including how NGOs, interest groups and individual people connect with each other, how they work together to influence policy making.
Of all the places you've travelled to, what is the place you would most like to go back to?
It has always been one of my passions: traveling around the world to get to know different people and appreciate different cultures. Aarhus, Denmark is the place I always dreamed of going back again.
Tell us about one of your favourite things to do when you’re not working.
I am a mom of two young kids, and I like to spend most of my time being with them, reading, watching movies and playing games, etc. We have a lot of fun together, which makes me always feel happy and relaxed.

What was it about CCBR that made you want to be involved here?
I was introduced to CCBR through my Applied Apprenticeship course, SDS 496R, and when I came in to learn more about it, I was really excited to find out that community based research even existed. I'd never known before that a model like this existed for research, and I found it interesting to be able to get involved in projects that have contributions from the people and organizations they impact.
What are you most looking forward to in your role at CCBR?
I'm most excited to be able to connect with community members who are interested in the work, and I'm really looking forward to getting a lot of work done!
Of all the places you've travelled to, what is the place you would most like to go back to?
I'm a little bit of a square, the most interesting place I've been is Ottawa, so if I were to return there that'd be cool. It'd be more fun to explore some other places though.
Tell us about one of your favourite things to do when you’re not working
When I'm not working, sometimes I'll spend time with my roommates and either go out for a meal together or we'll stay in and have a game night with some friends.
