Jean began working at CCBR in the summer of 2019, as a translator for the project Evaluation Capacity Building for Refugee Resettlement. He then began as the Theron Kramer Intern, and he is now a part-time researcher.

With more than 15 years of experience in peacebuilding work, Jean de Dieu Basabose has facilitated numerous trainings and workshops on building peace, mediation, community organizing, organisational governance, monitoring local peace initiatives, nonviolent communication, trauma healing and counselling, and reconciliation. He also has experience in impact evaluations of peacebuilding and justice projects.

Jean co-founded Shalom Educating for Peace in 2007, and he co-directed the organization for more than 10 years, making tireless efforts to build and sustain positive peace through peace and nonviolence education. Jean’s contribution to building healthy and peaceful communities has focused on educating children, helping them grow up with a pro-peace mindset and preparing them to be peacemaking agents. His current research entitled “Anti-corruption Education and Peacebuilding” underlines the necessity of educating children and helping them to grow up with anti-corruption mindset and living with integrity. Jean’s research interests include: peace education; promoting anti-corruption education as a way of building positive peace; refugees and forced migration issues; and dialogue for healing the wounds of the past and reconciliation among diaspora groups as well as their integration in host communities. Jean holds a PhD in Public management from Durban University of Technology, a Master’s Degree in Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of Kwazulu-Natal, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the National University of Rwanda.
