Jason Newberry, Research Director

Jason Newberry is a Research Director and has been at CCBR since 2003. His doctoral work focused on the meaningful participation of people with mental health difficulties on governing boards of mental health agencies. Alongside this work, Jason worked as an evaluation consultant before joining CCBR.

Research and Action Interests

Jason's research and action has focused on the field of program evaluation broadly, with specific interest in system-level evaluations, complex interventions, theory of change, community-based research methods, capacity building, knowledge mobilization and community development. His content interests are wide-ranging, with the greatest emphasis on community mental health, disabilities rights and support, primary prevention, and citizen participation, social determinants of health, family support and early childhood development and interventions.

Recent Projects

Project Leader:An Evaluation of Recovery-Focused Case-Management in Waterloo-Wellington-Dufferin

  • A longitudinal process and outcome evaluation of case-management supports. This project follows from a regional partnership of mental health agencies that is leading system-level change to transform services and supports to become more recovery-focused.

Project Leader:Evaluation Development and Support for the National Community Inclusion Initiative

  • In partnership with the Canadian Association for Community Living, support and capacity building for system-level evaluation of provincial and territorial initiatives aimed at enhancing the inclusion of people with disabilities in Canadian communities.

Other Interests

Much of Jason's spare time is spent pursuing musical interests -- collecting music, seeing shows, playing guitar, and dabbling in home recording. His other interests include hockey, politics, independent film, and satire. Jason lives with his partner Linda in Guelph, Ontario.
