Somali Muslim Hate Crime Summit

Jul 12, 2008

CCBR partnered with the Somali Canadian Association of Etobicoke (www.somalicanadian.com) and successfully organized and facilitated a Somali Muslim Hate Crime Summit which raised the level of public awareness about hate crimes and their victims. The Summit was held on Saturday July 12, 2008 - 3pm to 7pm at the ThistletownMulti-ServicesCenter, 925 Albion Road, Etobicoke. We aimed to engage multiple stakeholders to work together in tangible, sustainable ways in order to effectively respond to victims of hate and to prevent hate crimes and incidents.MT Space, a professional multicultural theatre company located in Kitchener, was been commissioned to perform a 15 minutes dramatic presentation at the Summit. This project is funded by the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General as part of the Community Hate-crime Response Grants Program (CHARG). Contact Sarah Marsh (519-741-1318 x 227) for more details.
